Copacabana and
Leme share the same horseshoe-shaped beach that you see so often in the postcards. This is the setting of Rio's New
Year's festivities, attracting over 2 million people
from all around the world every year.
The beach is gorgeous, with a colorful mix of people, wide
banks of white sand, clean waters that are never rough. You are in
the heart of the South Side,
with quick access to areas like Arpoador, Ipanema, and Leblon.
From the two subway stations you can reach the historical and cultural attractions from Botafogo to Downtown in minutes.
There are more hotels in Copacabana and Leme together than in any other part of the city, and they come in all price ranges. Choose from economy inns to luxury towers along the beach with as many as 500 rooms!
All conveniences are in a walking distance. This area
concentrates movie theaters, theaters, restaurants, bars and cafes. Newsstands,
drugstores and supermarkets stay open around the clock. The main
street, Av. Copacabana, has the same role of Rua
Visconde de Pirajá, in Ipanema. It is lined up with
boutiques, and specialty stores selling everything from bikinis,
to gems and souvenirs. The area around Rua Santa Clara
concentrates outlets and discount clothing shops.
Nightlife caters to all
tastes and lifestyles. Beach kiosks are often open around the
clock. The cafes across the beach also remain open until very late
- Copacabana never sleeps. There are dance
clubs, live music shows,
always a lot of people coming and going. For the single and lonely
Lido's circuit features world-famous go-go bars and strip joints
amidst landmark art-deco
buildings. Gay and lesbian
bars, discos and baths are also easy to find.
